The next time you find yourself whining about a bad day, ponder this: 10-year-old Morgan Platt has been fighting pediatric cancer for nearly three years.
She was only seven when she passed out on the bathroom floor and her parents called 9-1-1.
Morgan’s motto: Be Strong. Be Positive. is contagious. So much so, that she inspired the valiant staff and patients at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center to create an endearing music video to bring awareness to childhood cancer.
Part of Morgan’s love of music includes being a fan of Imagine Dragons. Can you picture her excitement when on March 2, 2014, Morgan had the opportunity to meet Imagine Dragons face-to-face?
TRF Board Member, Annmarie Wilmeth hosted Morgan, her family, and friends at a recent Imagine Dragons concert at the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut.
Annmarie said, “The limousine pulled up at 5:30, and everyone piled in with glee. Happily wearing their Tyler Robinson Foundation shirts, we arrived at Mohegan Sun Resort to see Imagine Dragons!”
“We entered the backstage room and the Platt Family shared their excitement about Imagine Dragons’ recent Beatles performance. They then thanked the band for the important work they are doing to help families with children battling cancer.”
Morgan came bearing gifts as she presented imagine Dragons with her signature pin: a hand-painted butterfly on a lavender background, one blue wing… one purple wing.
Imagine Dragons who are also on the Board of Directors of The Tyler Robinson Foundation, let the Platt’s know that they will receive a grant to assist them with the tremendous “unseen” costs that have accumulated over the last three years.
After pictures, hugs and thoughtful comments about Morgan’s art by the band members, we headed back to be entertained through all our senses to the music of Imagine Dragons, for 90 minutes.
The concert included a touching tribute to Tyler Robinson for whom the foundation is named: his legacy lives on through the work of many volunteers, donors, and, of course, Imagine Dragons and the Robinson Family.
What did Morgan think of that night? “This was the best day of my life! Tonight, I think the band really cares about me, and I loved their tribute to Tyler – I sent a few words to him too.”
Morgan’s mother, Kathy Platt, said of the evening, “It TRULY was. We have forever been connected to an awesome organization, The Tyler Robinson Foundation. It was evident that they are true, down to earth men that love making music and giving back to help others. We can’t thank you enough for the incredible evening but more important, for the grant you presented to our family. THANK YOU Tyler Robinson Foundation.”
What a magical, butterfly-kind-of-night.
